It’s that time of year….the weather is getting cooler, it is getting darker sooner, and those are two of the best excuses to curl up in a nice big blanket, human burrito style, and get lost in a book! Don’t forget the low ambient lighting or twinkle of Christmas lights for the added comfort flair.
I had a goal to read 12 books this year…I’VE ALMOST REACHED MY GOAL!!! This is monumental. Even though I LOVE to read, I have ADHD so finding the time when I’m in overdrive to actually sit down and enjoy myself can be hard.
Since my last reading post “What Am I Reading?!” I have had the chance to finish up some reading I was in the middle of, start new books, and finish books!
Okay, okay….onto the good part. WHAT HAVE I BEEN READING?!
I finished up “Freed” by EL James. This was the third installment of Grey trilogy. 50 Shades of Grey, but from Christian Grey’s perspective. This book lived up to it’s “mother book,” 50 Shades Freed. I have mad respect for EL James and her ability to do this series justice from both perspectives of both main characters. I am here for it!! I would encourage most anyone read both of these trilogies. But be warned…they are S P I C Y! This isn’t your grandmama’s typical love story.
It’s no secret I’ve been back on my Backstreet Boy kick this year due to living out a childhood dream of mine and finally going to a BSB concert this past summer….and fall (an entire post coming on that soon)! So when I found out one of the leaders of the BSB Fan Club had written some fan-fiction I found it immediately and straight up devoured it!
The first book was How To Be An Adult Fan Girl (An Not Ruin Your Life). She has recently taken it down from Amazon, but I could see it going back up! This story is all about Harley, her love of the band Insomnia, and a few marvelously twisted events that lead to a larger than life experience!! You need to keep a look out for this book to make its way back to Amazon and not walk, but RUN to read it!
While I was on the Karah-Leigh Hancock train, I just kept on reading every book and story I could find of hers on Amazon. The next one I read is called Let It Be Me. Emma had a rocky relationship with her dad, but when he is dying and asks for her, he spills a SUPER secret that leads to a LOT of questions and finding out some information about her favorite boy band! I read this book in 24 hours. I’m not kidding. I could not put this book down…or any of the books Karah had written for that matter. GO READ IT. NOW!
The last Karah-Leigh Hancock book I read, and just finished, is called Sweeter Than Fiction. Kelsey, the main character, writes and publishes a book based on her favorite boy band member and it completely blows up, in the best way possible. This too was a book I finished in 24 hours and couldn’t put it down. I would highly recommend this book!
Now, as I am (im)patiently waiting on the release of the BSB 30th Anniversary Book that Karah wrote, I am filling my time with the ever-so popular Colleen Hoover.
I have JUST started the book It Ends With Us. One of my best friends has raved about this book so I figured I’d jump on the CoHo train and give it a shot. Come along with me! I’m always down to talk books!
This brings me to a total of 10 books read so far this year. Starting #11 and I imagine it will move pretty quickly. I get asked all the time, “How do you read?!” Usually by people that aren’t as into reading as I am.
First off, it has to be a book that hooks me early on or has some sort of rolling momentum to keep me thinking something big is coming so that I’ll keep reading. I’m one of those people that even if I hate a book, I am determined enough to finish it. Maybe it’s the OCD/ADHD combo that makes that happen, but whatever. My mama ain’t raised no quitter!
Secondly, I have recently started reading on my Kindle more and purchased the Kindle Unlimited subscription. I have a Kindle Paperwhite so that it has a light behind the screen. This way I can read in the dark and not need a bulky book light (but I do have one). I’ve found that when putting my son to sleep, as I rock him and he is drifting, it’s very easy to read with the Kindle and not disturb him. Also, it keeps me from having to have my beside lamp on when my husband is trying to sleep.
This is the version I have:
With Prime, this Kindle Paperwhite is $94.99. Not only doe sit have the backlight but it’s great for beach or bath reading as it’s water proof.
Don’t get me wrong, I love me a good in-my-hands paper book, but sometimes that just isn’t practical.
Lastly, when I get on a roll with reading, I keep it going for months. If I stop, it’s hard to pick up momentum again so I try to just keep going with no breaks. I have also found reading is the perfect self care for me. It keeps me grounded, but dreaming.
Anyone up for book club?! Email me. I’m down! Check back for more reading updates as we are in the last month and a half of 2022! HAPPY READING ALL!
*I have listed links to Amazon for all the above books! #CommissionsEarned*
