Okay, okay. Not really. She’s a board and batten covered home, but that’s not nearly as catchy.
When we first started planning our new build, I only had a few requests.
1. A sink in the island in the kitchen since we are doing an open concept. I want to be able to be in the kitchen and still be apart of what’s going on in the living room. Some call it FOMO, I call it being inclusive. Maybe it’s a hint of FOMO, whatever.
2. A soaking tub. Most ladies can agree with me here. Give me a tub I can fit in without half my body having to stick out of the bath and be cold. I want to unwind and relax in a nice warm bubble bath.
3. A mini in-home library. Where my book people at?! I asked for something resembling Belle’s Library in the Beauty and the Beast Castle, but I was quickly reminded the entire house budget was not going to be spent on a library so I settled for a nice little “library” in our bedroom with a reading nook. It’s bookshelves with a chair. I can compromise sometimes.
4. A walk in pantry with outlets to avoid cluttered kitchen counters. I don’t think I need to explain this. IYKYK.
Everything else was FAIR GAME! I even agreed to let my husband hang his LARGE dead animals on the walls in the living room in exchange for the list of 4 items above. Give and take, am I right?!
From the beginning, we had to move the house around a few times on paper to get it just right. Our new build is 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 car garage, office space, bonus above garage, roughly 2200 square feet, and a large concrete patio out back. As I tell everyone that asks, I don’t do much with numbers so exact dimensions and measurements, I have no clue…count me out.
Here’s where we are at in pictures…
I’ve come to realize I need to take more pictures of this build and really soak it all in. We plan to stay put for a LONG while, potentially even forever, so it’s now or never on storing these memories.
Depending on the day, I may or may not be able to really visualize what’s in front of me. I am so eager to get sheetrock up just so I can get the full image in my brain. To me, this house still doesn’t make sense and I tell my husband that every time we’re in there. He pulls the, “Can’t you see it now?! (insert grown man drooling over his handy work and ideas.)”
Me, “I’m going to be completely honest with you….no.”
So I’m ready to be able to SEE it, that way I can stop dampening his good mood on home building, ha!
I’ll be posting more about the innards of this beaut soon! So stay tuned!
